Chapter 14 Discuss the Nomic game we played in class

At first I was very confused of how to play the game, even after I read the directions I still felt unsure on how to play the game. Once Misty got the ball rolling, it stared to make sence. I learned that rules and law making is very hard. Hard because not everyone feel the same way you do. Our group was small that night so their was not must arguing and debating. We all were females that agreed with each others rules. I can easily see how this game can last a long time and how their can be head bunting, if thier was a much larger and more diverse group of people. Many rules made are good and useful, but others just can be dumb.

Chapter 13 Discuss an article that narrows your topic

Women's Rights in Iraq
Women's rights in Iraq is so faint, some such as Howard Dean feel that women would be worse off in Iraq as opposed to under Saddam Hussein. Human rights groups are concernedthat the Iraqi constitution will place restrictions on women's freedom in areas, such as property rights, and divorce. Women have no respect and are treated badly. Women are often raped or badly beaten in order to blackmail others. Dispite all the negative aspects women accouter, many now feel passionate to include women's rights in the Iraqi constitution. Also many women leaders implied including women's rights, training them in necessary advocacy and education skills that will be needed to promote their rights with the Iraqi government and the society as a whole. Rule Under Saddam
I came upon this interesting article when surching for info on Iraq. Saddam Hussein was the de facto ruler of Iraq for some years before he formally came into power. Saddam Hussein has a lot to do with the current problems between United States and Iraq. The country of Iraq stuggled to rebuild after over two decades of war, it was recked by violence between the Iraqi insurgency and occupation forces. An interim Iraq government council was established in 2003 with the goals of drafting a constitution and other infrastructure - building duties. Terrorism emerged as a threat to Iraq's people not long after the invasion of 2003. Al Qaeda had also formed several terrorist groups led by Saddam . After all the Saddam has done to the United States, such as vanishing from the U.S military in April, he was finally captured on December 13, 2003.

Chapter 11 #6 page 438

Personally I dont see any problem or rejaction towards the American Flag stars and strips being printed on paper towels or toilet paper to be sold for the Fourth of July picnics and partys. You see the red, white and blue flag every where else why not on napkins or paper towels to show great support and sprit. To me the American flag represents respect and holds great honor. The American flag plays historic and symbolic roles in out society. Since actions such as flag burning like Johnson has demenstrated are protected under the First Amendment, why woulden't we be able to express our pride with American flag napkins on the Fourth of July. The flag was invented to promote and show pride and respect. Unfortunally the flag is also used as a form of revenage each other. I dont see any problem with little Americam napkins being sold on the Fourth of July, I only see a problem if someone starts to burn the American napkins.

Chapter 10 #3 page 394

I understand Holmes was only acting on the orders he was given by his mate, but still no one has the right to kill anyone. Holmes argued that the mate orders are just as valided as if they came from the captin, so he had no choice but to obey or be killed himself. In a time of life and death, who is to say who's dies and who's lives. Holmes did have ground to act the way he did because of the orders given, and with his own life on the line. I feel that the captin or even the mate should take responsibility for the thorwning overboard because they are the two who made the dicision to have the lottery and kill lives in order to save lives. To me killing one the save another doesn't make any sence. Every person on board had a right to make his or her own decision weather to live or die trying. Holmes should have done what was right by giving others their equal rights, and letting them survive for themselves.
Chapter 9 Evaluate one source from paper #3

I really enjoyed reading the case of Texas v. Johnson. During the 1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas, respondent Johnson participated in a political demonstration to protest the policies of the Reagan administration and some Dallas-based corporations. After a march through the city streets, Johnson burned an American flag while protesters chanted. No one was physically injured or threatened with injury, although several witnesses were seriously offended by the fla burning. Johnson was convicted of desecration of a venerated object in violation of a Texas statute. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed holding that the State could not punish Johnson for burning the flag under these circumstances. The court first found that Johnson's burning of the flag was expressive conduct protected under the First Amendment. The court also concluded that the State could not criminally sanction flag desecration in order to preserve the flag as a symbol of national unity. I understand the First Amendment gives us all equal rights to freedom of speech, but burning the American flag is just disrespectful to others, and I strongly feel that people who show such hate with no respect should in fact be punished.

Chapter #8 Discuss movie Fahrenheit 9/11

I was very superised at this movie. I thought it was going to be a movie remake of 9/11 and the war. It was really a documentary about smashing President Bush, and was really happened during that time of 9/11. I enjoyed learning about the seines behind the war and government. It was very sad to see what are poor soldiers and their families had to go though in the name of United States. Personaly I did not like how when Pres. Bush found out about the terroist attack on 9/11, he did not react as quickly as any other President would have as their Pres. duty. Also I was shocked to learn how much money the Iraqies have invested in United States. I also could not understand how Pres. Bush and the Iraqies were friends, and how Pres. Bush was notified ahead of time of the incident and he did nothing. A good point Moore illustrated was how only 1 senator had a child in the army out fighting for our United States respect. Overall I enjoyed learning more and getting more facts realted to our tragedy on 9/11.

When writtimg a college paper, professors look for good information recived from a source and if was cited correctly. The first step is to choose a topic related to the assignment. Chapter 6 Summarize an article form paper #2

Code Pink women for peace feels strongly towards tha Salinas public libraries situation. They start off by saying, "Help save the Salinas libraries and join in with the community.Congress allows billions of dollars to war, food stamps, public transportation, health care, and education- including libraries. Out of all the other programs to have cut funds from, Congress selected libraries to close. Education is a top priority to most people, you would think government would enforce education a little better than they are showing. Code Pink talks about Salinas, California- The home town of the Great John Steinbeck. Code Pink also strongly points out their is a huge demand for money. "Demand money for Libraries, not for war. Money for books, not bombs. Leer es Poder: Reading is Power.
Chapter 5 #8 Page 197

I feel if immigrants have attempted to get citizenship and want to be a part of California, then yes they should be allowed to vote in state and local elections. Trying to receive their citizenship showes how deadicated and trully want to be part of our country. As Cole points out the constitution forbids immigrants to vote in Federal elections, which is understandable to the safty and respect of people nationality. Illegal immigrants should defiantly NOT be able to vote. If they show no effort or attempt to fit in, and just keep hiding, then Illegal immigrants have no rights and privillages to vote in state and local elections.
